New Cellular Info Tab
See bands, bandwidth, tower info, and more.
Hey friend,
Last month we launched our all-new Cellular Info Tab for our Android App.
The Cellular Info Tab brings your connection details into one clean interface:

You can easily see:
Connection Info: See your carrier, underlying network, roaming status, IP transit, network generation, and more.
Primary & Secondary Bands: See the main frequency band (P) your phone is using for its connection, along with any secondary bands (S) for added speed and capacity.
Bandwidth (MHz): View the width of the frequency channel allocated to the device. More bandwidth (e.g., 20 MHz vs. 5 MHz) means faster speeds.
eNB / gNB Identifiers: Identify the specific 4G (eNB) or 5G (gNB) cell tower a device is connected to, providing a new level of transparency regarding local network infrastructure.
Signal Strength (RSRP): Get a precise look at signal quality ranging from excellent (-60dBm) to the cell edge (-120dBm).
And so much more
See Cellular Info While Running a Speed Test
You can now access Cellular Info while running a speed test.
Simply tap the tower icon in the bottom right of the speed test to open the Cellular Info Sheet:

The first tap opens the compact view. Swiping up opens the expanded view with more details.
Understanding the Metrics
Cellular metrics can sometimes feel confusing.
What are primary, secondary, and neighbor bands?
What’s the difference between cell identity (CI) and physical cell ID (PCI)?
What do reference signal received power (RSRP), received signal strength indicator (RSSI), and reference signal received quality (RSRQ) mean? What are good values for each?
To help explain all the metrics, we created an educational sheet that explains the terms in plain English.

Open the sheet by tapping the “?” button on the Cellular Info Tab.
A New Standard for Cellular Apps
With this release, Coverage Map is the first application to combine:
Crowdsourced cellular coverage maps
On-device speed testing
Live cellular connectivity information
All within a single app.
Our goal is to help consumers make educated decisions about their wireless service. We hope this update brings a new level of transparency and information into your hands.
Thanks,
Stetson
P.S. - We recently launched our new Coverage API for integrating cellular coverage data into your projects. Check it out if you are interested. It has a free 14-day trial with no credit card required.
